Fountainhead of the lineage
Mahavatar Babaji
At the source of this lineage stands Mahavatar Babaji — the deathless Himalayan master through whom Kriya Yoga has been preserved and returned to the world across the ages. This is the same eternal science that Lord Krishna imparted to Arjuna at the time of the Mahabharata, and the same Kriya that Babaji brought to light once more in the mid-19th century, transmitting it to Lahiri Mahasaya to revive it for the modern age.
It was this same Babaji who, in the Himalayas, blessed and empowered Yogiraj Satgurunath Siddhanath, the master from whom I received initiation, charging him to carry Kriya Yoga out into the world. Yogiraj honours him as Shiva-Goraksha Babaji; my own heart has always connected him with Krishna. Yet in truth he wears no single name and no single form: he is the nameless, formless One, meeting each soul however its love can reach him. Here, we simply call him Babaji.
The Himalayan Master
Yogiraj Satgurunath Siddhanath

Back in 2019, it felt like I’d found a long-lost, ancient friend and that my Divine quest was finally over. I could never have predicted how the following years would turn out — that every single step of the soul journey was meticulously planned, precisely timed, and shockingly liberating.
Across 7 years, I recollect under 30 minutes of actual personal contact with him. It would be a lie to say that this was entirely easy.
I had been to a handful of group sessions/satsangs, sitting in the audience absorbing everything, his speech becoming indelibly etched into my mind and then blooming into realisations far beyond what words could carry.
In 2022, when he looked at me and said “everything can be done in silence, can’t it?”, it felt like a cryptic remark that may never make sense in this lifetime. Now, I realise the truth behind those deceptively simple words. The entire connection was founded and grew on silence. It turned out to be more than enough.
It was never about the outer form, physical proximity or access, or even agreeability with the human personality. With a realised spiritual guru, and I scarcely use this word for how diluted it has become, the connection is meant to be of the soul, of pure consciousness. This is only possible with someone who is in an ego-less state, and such a clean mirror is only visible when one has deeply purified their own heart and desires.
Nothing is hidden from the mirror; it only exists to reflect back our truth, and light, or re-light a sacred fire within us. That fire burns through all illusions to reveal our own inner Divinity, unmediated and unbound. That is Divine Friendship and Love at its zenith.
A personal account
Everything can be done in silence: My journey with Yogiraj SatGurunath Siddhanath
First published in 2025, this is the longer story of recognition, service, silence, humour, love, and the inner listening that shaped my relationship with the Guru.
“Everything can be done in silence, can’t it?”
He looked at me as I sat down to join the others on a Goan sandy beach one March night in 2022. It was the first day of a spiritual retreat with Yogiraj SatGurunath Siddhanath, a Himalayan Kriya Yogi whose ashram can be found in Pune.
I felt lucky to be there, having arrived at the accommodation just after 10pm, following a long taxi ride with a well-meaning driver who was confident he knew where to go, only to force me to break out my bumbling, broken Hindi to direct him at some crucial junctures. When we also lost signal at the same time, I could almost hear the cosmic laughter erupt in the ether. I suppose the Divine needs to have a laugh with someone too!
This little escapade, followed by his words to me that evening, essentially sums up my entire relationship with the Guru and the Divine, for which the Guru acts as a pure conduit.
In essence, don’t take life too seriously and learn to listen. These may sound like pop psychology instagram quotes, but in my sincere efforts to do just as was required of me, I have experienced whirlwinds of inner transformation over the past 6 years. The journey has been both ecstatically blissful and devastatingly painful at times. The primary quality that remained steady throughout any turbulence was my love.
Unconditional love, but not blind. Attuned, but not attached. This was the way it had to be.
2019: Meeting the Guru
At 26 years old, I had already known for quite a long time that my deeper purpose in life was to seek the Divine. To be frank, I was madly in love and at various periods of time my devotional fervour had reached such a zenith that I couldn’t operate as normal in day to day activities. A true spiritual satguru is able to work with and regulate each disciple’s energies as necessary for their own evolution.
There is so much more that can be said on how a disciple recognises such a guru, on exercising discernment and free will in this two-way bond. However, that is beyond the remit of this article so I will focus only on my own experience.
